Mission Update

Given the current global pandemic caused by the Coronavirus, Lay Mission-Helpers Association postponed the departure of our healthcare workers to Uganda and recommended that our missionaries currently in the field return to the United States from their missions in Ghana, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.  The lay missionaries who chose to come home temporarily have all arrived safely and are observing a 14-day self-quarantine.  For the lay missionary who chose to stay, she is sheltering in place. When the situation improves, they will be able to serve again in mission.  We were guided by the recent recommendations from the United States government, actions taken by other similar organizations, and our concern for the well-being of our lay missionaries and the communities they serve. In addition to anticipated disruptions in travel, we are also mindful of the potential for becoming a drain on the limited resources at mission locations.

Our missionaries accept this temporary change with openness and faith.

Thank you for standing with us at this time of heightened anxiety.  We count on your prayers and support!

“I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.’”
Ps. 91.2

In this time of coronavirus pandemic, Lay Mission-Helpers, following Pope Francis, seek the maternal intercession of the Blessed Mother and invite all to do the same.

O Mary,
you shine on our way
as sign of salvation and of hope.

We entrust ourselves to you,
Health of the Sick,
who at the foot of the cross bound yourself to the suffering of Jesus,
keeping strong your faith.

O Salvation of God’s People,
you know what we need,
and we are sure you will provide it to us
just as at Cana of Galilee,
may we return to joy and to feasting
after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform ourselves to the will of the Father
and to do what Jesus tells us.
May he who took upon himself our sufferings
and carried our sorrows
lead us, through the cross,
to the joy of the resurrection.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God.
Hear our prayer at this time of trial and, through your intercessions, deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
