Cameroon | LMH Served: 54
We originally came to Cameroon in the 1960’s when our LMH’ers in Nigeria crossed the border due to the conflict in Nigeria. We have served in Cameroon ever since. We work in the Diocese of Kumbo and the Archdiocese of Bamenda. These dioceses are located in the Northwest Province and are in the English speaking section of the country.
Kenya | LMH Served: 58
LMH has a long history of service in Kenya beginning in 1957. We currently serve in the Diocese of Meru, located in the Eastern Province near Mt. Kenya. The people live within rugged hills with land that ranges from heavy virgin forests above 8,000 feet elevation to semi-arid desert at less than 3,000 feet elevation. The majority of Meru people are subsistence farmers.
Tanzania | LMH Served: 30
Tanzania was one of the first three original sites for the Lay Mission-Helpers Association. After an absence of nearly 30 years, we have returned to Tanzania, serving the Diocese of Mtwara. Mtwara is in the southern region of Tanzania bordering Mozambique and the Indian Ocean.
Uganda | LMH Served: 10
Uganda was one of the first three original sites for the Lay Mission-Helpers Association. After an absence of nearly 40 years, we have returned to Uganda, serving in the Diocese of Kabale. We serve at Karoli Lwanga Hospital in the town of Nyakibale and St. Francis Hospital in the town of Mutolere. Kabale is located in the southwestern part of Uganda, bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
